Photo mission ideas

20 wedding photo challenges that don’t force a pose.

The best challenges encourage guests to notice what is around them. Choose a few optional missions that suit your group instead of making everyone complete a photo scavenger hunt.

The little details

These missions do not need to interrupt conversations. They capture the setting and atmosphere in your own way.

  • 1. Your favourite decoration detail: a flower, ribbon or light.
  • 2. A corner of the venue the couple might not have had time to see.
  • 3. The table before dinner, without readable personal details.
  • 4. An interesting reflection in a mirror or window.
  • 5. A recurring colour from the day, captured in one frame.

New connections and reunions

Always ask before taking a portrait. Everyone can suggest something else or skip a mission.

  • 6. A portrait with your table neighbour, if they would like one.
  • 7. Several generations of the family together.
  • 8. Two people reuniting after a long time apart.
  • 9. Hands raising a toast, keeping faces out of frame if preferred.
  • 10. A small group wearing the same colour.

Celebration moments

Enjoy the moment and avoid getting in the way of the photographer, staff or other guests.

  • 11. The dance floor as the party starts, from a safe spot.
  • 12. A fun accessory, worn with its owner’s permission.
  • 13. The cake before the first slice, without blocking service.
  • 14. Your group’s favourite celebration pose.
  • 15. A detail that captures the music or mood, without a disruptive flash.

Memories to discover later

These ideas work well for a surprise album or a next-day story.

  • 16. The sky or light at a meaningful moment of the day.
  • 17. Your favourite memory represented by a single object.
  • 18. A thoughtful gesture by a guest, with their permission.
  • 19. Your group’s last photo before leaving.
  • 20. An image you would love the couple to discover tomorrow, with a simple title.

How should you choose your missions?

Start with three to five ideas rather than all twenty. Mix a detail, a meeting and a celebration moment. Adapt them to guests’ ages and the venue’s accessibility. Avoid risky tasks, forced drinking or embarrassing photos. Children should participate with their guardians’ permission and support.

Add them to your PicPeers album

Add custom missions to the event and share its link or QR code. Guests can choose a mission when uploading. After the reveal and any moderation, gallery filters help you find associated contributions. Explain that missions are invitations: spontaneous photos without a mission are valuable too.
